Pasting Media, Transit Routes in Japan, FAQs, and More!

Planner

  • [Feature] We’ve added support for pasting images directly into the place media tab in the dialog. This should help streamline workflows when pulling images from your web photo manager
  • [Bug] Addressed a issue with transit routing in Japan. Apparently, due to licensing restrictions, transit routing in Japan is not available via the Google Maps API 🙁 See: https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/285825720 (thanks to Lori for reporting this!). For now, the fix is to show these routes in red and with a warning that it couldn’t be rendered as a transit route. The route is a driving route instead.

Story

  • [Feature] Stories now have dedicated FAQ sections! The questions and answers will be rendered in the Google search result as it is also exposed as structured data. This allows your story to stand out! Using the FAQ also helps your story achieve better indexing as it more closely aligns with typical user questions when researching travel.
  • [Feature] Aside from the FAQ schema, we’ve also added the TouristTrip JSON+LD schema output to help improve SEO for each story.
  • [Feature] We’ve added the option to set a publisher for the trip. Previously, it was whomever saved the story. Now it’s based on an explicitly selected user.

Miscellaneous

  • We’ve updated our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. The previous versions were pulled from an older project and not reflective of the needs of a platform like Turas.
  • Gary is taking Turas on the road for his own trip to Europe! Check it out here: 6 Days in Paris, France
  • Anoop is the first user to share his stories with us! Anoop reached out and asked if we could increase the size of the intro field and we reached back out to him to see if he would be interested in sharing his stories: Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Turkey. If you’re interested in sharing your story, reach out and let us know!

What We’re Working On

  • This week we’ll be turning on our monetization program. This allows users to sign up and monetize their trips.
  • We have a lot of usability improvements in the pipeline due to Gary’s own findings and feedback from other users
